JACKSONVILLE, FL – Girls Rock Jacksonville, a local non-profit summer camp that uses music and performance to promote creative expression, self-confidence and community among young women and girls, is hosting their second annual showcase on August 3rd at 3pm at the Florida Theatre!

Over the course of the week-long camp, the girls, ranging in age from 9-16, are provided instruction on electric guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals by talented local female musicians. Campers attend workshops throughout the week that help develop specific DIY skills, build self-esteem, and broaden their perceptions of community and collaboration. The campers form bands, choose band names, design logos, make t-shirts and write an original song together to perform on-stage for their family, friends and community.

The week’s finale will feature the girls showcasing their new skills and sharing their original works on the most historical stage in Jacksonville, the Florida Theatre! The showcase will take place on Saturday, August 3 at 3 p.m. and is open to the public. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Florida Theatre box office (also by phone 904.355.2787), www.ticketmaster.com, and at the door. Youth 12 and under are free! The camp is run by a volunteer-only staff of community organizers, activists, musicians, and educators. Your attendance and support will help ensure the continuance of Girls Rock Jacksonville for years to come!

Although media is not permitted on-site during camp hours, we invite all forms of press to attend the 2013 Girls Rock Jacksonville Showcase.
