New York-based singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston’s second album, “Can You Fly,” received rave reviews from Rolling Stone and Spin in the ’90s. That wasn’t bad for a guy who first picked up a guitar at 17 years old. In an interview earlier this year with the Montgomery News, the Kansas native said his songwriting became “more contemplative, more methodical” after his early success.
